The LBI Spring Fishing Tournament Just Concluded on Sunday

The Long Beach Island Spring Fishing Tournament just concluded on Sunday, June 22. Although the winners have not yet been officially announced, it appears that Steve Taylor is taking home the top prize for striped bass with his 14.46-pound linesider. Patrick Presutto looks to have the bluefish prize with a 12.44-pound blue, and Richard Rasiul holds the lead in the “Surf Master Catch and Release” with his 44-inch striper.

Excitement On The Beach With The LBI Spring Derby

Helping to add excitement on the beach is the LBI Spring Derby, which is coming down the home stretch and slated to close on June 23. With the increase in weigh-ins over the past two weeks, it is not too late to spend $20 and register. All proceeds from the registration fees are doled out in cash prizes. With the fish still in the area, prize winning fish are still waiting to be caught.

Waters In The Low 50's & Anglers Are Scoring Fish

With the water temperatures still in the low 50’s, these fish are much more likely to fall for bait than artificials. These early bass are often swimming close to sod banks, and they find it difficult to stay away from fresh bloodworms or sandworms presented on the bottom on a circle hook. Freshly shucked surf clams have also been taking some linesiders.
